Easy Tips to Clean Your Coffee Maker At Home
Your coffee maker is used daily, but it's an appliance that probably doesn't get a good cleaning very often. An essential factor determining the quality and taste of home-brewed coffee is how clean your coffee brewer is. To avoid unwanted bacteria caused by coffee build-up, keep up with routine cleanings of your coffee maker.

-
Moka Pot
Our in-house coffee experts tell us that the best way to clean a Moka Pot is by using neutral, fragrance-free dish soap and a soft sponge. Dismantle all the pieces of the pot and then scrub each piece properly.
Ensure to thoroughly rinse away any soap suds as they can remain in the filter basket. You can also replace the aluminum filter basket if it gets clogged over time.
-
French Press
Start by emptying the coffee grounds from the carafe using a spatula. Toss these grounds in the compost bin as draining them down the sink can cause a clog.
Add lukewarm water and a few drops of liquid dish soap to the carafe. Then plunge the plunger up and down until it gets nice and foamy. This helps to clean the inside effectively and removes residual coffee oils.
Then, use hot water and a soft sponge to clean the jug by hand. Rinse thoroughly, making sure there is no soap residue.
-
Aeropress
It's relatively easy to clean and maintain an Aeropress. Rinse the Aeropress after each use, and once a week or so, remove the rubber seal and clean the whole device with mild detergent. To remove any oil build-up, scrub it inside and out.

Home Espresso Machine
To start with, you follow the manufacturer's cleaning instructions thoroughly. As each machine is unique and has its own requirements, simply using the auto-clean and descaling functions won't be enough after a prolonged period of regular use.
It's a good practice to do water-only backflushing much more regularly. It is also vital to remove the shower screen and clean it properly.
For cleaning the steam wand - purge plenty of steam through the wand tip after each use, and wipe it with a damp cloth. Finally, empty the drip tray, rinse with hot water, and dry it with a microfibre cloth. Once everything is dry, reassemble all the pieces.
